Its Suites have hosted global leaders and Royal guests and you’ll certainly get the VIP vibes on your Sri Lanka honeymoon.

Villa 21 at Ulagalla in Anuradhapura
Complete isolation defines the luxurious romance of Uga Ulagalla a proud Member of our Sustainable Travel Sri Lanka Collective, - a pioneering initiative by Ayu in the Wild Holidays to showcase not only Sri Lanka’s sustainable hotels, but worthy initiatives funded through tourism revenue. There’s also the underground wine cellar, the most delicious locally sourced gourmet food, superb service and picture-postcard views. Set furthest from the main building, (which, by the way, used to be a local village chieftain’s house a few decades ago - how about that for history!), Villa 21 overlooks a little lake (a hammock for two swings temptingly by the water) and the romance is as natural as the air here.
What we love
The tranquil setting of the outdoor plunge pools surrounded by all that green - only the monkeys and peacocks will take a peep.
Worth stepping out for
Ulagalla is the perfect luxury hotel for an adventure honeymoon in Sri Lanka exploring historic ruins, restored temples and crumbling ancient cities. Private tours to explore the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka with a local Ayu in the Wild guide including the 1236 steps to the top of Sigiriya are the perfect add on to this honeymoon hotel.

The Upper Suite at Fort Bazaar in Galle
Set in a UNESCO-listed 17th century Fort, the Fort Bazaar by Teardrop Hotels invites honeymooners to indulge in a truly romantic experience with a Moorish feel. A historical Moroccan traders house, this property is full of charm and heritage. The 75 metres.sq Upper Suite offers fantastic views over Galle Fort to the Indian Ocean from the private balcony perfect for quiet evenings. Indulge in the amazing Church Street Kitchen (one of Ayu in the Wild’s personal favourites inside the Galle Fort) which nails delicate appetisers like the sesame-seared kingfish carpaccio with jalapeños, ginger and soy and the more robust traditional Sri Lankan crab curry, to perfection. Délicieux, as they say in France.
What we love
The nighttime ambiance in the open-air courtyard, scented by a riot of frangipani flowers, illuminated by glowing Moorish lamps after dark and as many cushions as one would like to rest on.

The Castlereagh Bungalow at Tea Trails in Hatton
If you were searching for that one perfect Relais and Chateaux mountain hideaway before jetting off to the beaches on your Sri Lanka and Maldives honeymoon - then Castlereagh Bungalow is the seclusion you seek. We love the views and gardens at this Resplendent Ceylon’s eclectic Tea Trails bungalow built-in 1925 on the shore of the Castlereagh Reservoir. Open fireplaces in the sitting and dining rooms and a private butler should you ever need just about anything! The planters of Ceylon, lived such decadent lives and a stay at Ceylon Tea Trails, Castlereagh will surely spoil you for life.
What we love
Oh, it’s so hard to choose! Is it luxuriating in a jacuzzi overlooking the sparkling Castlereagh Reservoir, or the honeymoon turndown service with the signature tea-infused bath with bubbles for two...hmm, we will let you choose.
Worth stepping out for
This is a tough one because there’s really no reason to leave that groaning antique butler’s tray set by the fireplace in the living room, filled with French champagnes, Australian tipples, vintage scotch or the most delicate cups of white teas. We recommend you enjoy a digestif in front of the fire and mull over which Ceylon Tea Trails bungalow to explore next on your 1st anniversary trip to Sri Lanka!
